Woman rescued, then arrested in fiery DUI crash, Georgia police say

Alka Bharwaj faces charges of DUI, reckless driving, open container

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – A woman who police pulled from a burning, overturned Range Rover last week in Georgia was then arrested, accused of drunken driving, according to the Johns Creek Police Department.

Alka Bharwaj faces charges of DUI, reckless driving and open container, the police department said in a video that included body-worn camera footage of her March 19 rescue.

First responders worked to extinguish the fire before breaking through the woman’s sunroof, leaving one officer’s hands bloodied.

Bharwaj was finally removed from the vehicle after some difficulty and asked to lie down as police soon recovered what appeared to be an open wine bottle from under her person, the video shows.
