DeLand man, 81, hit, killed crossing International Speedway Boulevard

Daytona Beach driver not injured in wreck

DeLAND, Fla. – An 81-year-old DeLand man was struck and killed early Friday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal wreck happened around 5 a.m. on westbound International Speedway Boulevard (U.S. 92) near Lanscam Lane, just east of DeLand.

The FHP said a 26-year-old Daytona Beach man was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala west on ISB, and the DeLand man was walking north on the roadway, not in a crosswalk.

According to troopers, the man entered the direct path of the car and was struck.

The 81-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, an FHP crash report stated.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene, the FHP said.

Westbound lanes of U.S. 92 were blocked in the area.

An investigation is ongoing.

Meantime, a big rig overturned around 4:30 a.m. on southbound I-95, north of LPGA Boulevard, in Volusia County.

No one was injured in the crash, but the right lanes of southbound I-95 were blocked in the area.
