Mystery surrounds fatal Winter Garden crash after Tesla goes airborne, strikes fence, tree

Crash happened on Tiny Road and Green Orchard Avenue

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – A 41-year-old Winter Garden man was killed when the Tesla he was driving became airborne before it struck a fence and a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash was discovered Tuesday at 7:19 a.m., but a neighbor told investigators they may have heard the crash Monday around 10 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Tesla Model Y was traveling south on Tiny Road, north of Green Orchard Avenue above the posted speed limit, when it became airborne after descending a hill.

Troopers said the vehicle rotated clockwise and traveled off of the road and struck a fence. It then entered a field and crashed into a tree.

According to the report, due to the impact, the vehicle began to overturn and came to a final rest with the right side of the Tesla resting against a tree.

Troopers said Tiny Road is closed in both directions in the area.

The crash remains under investigation.
